Discover the secret lives of reptile and amphibian species in the southern Appalachian mountains. In this course, we will focus on their specific adaptations and distributions in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Emphasis will be given to the general natural history of each species, including distribution, associations, reproduction, status, conservation, and research methods. Fieldwork will include surveys of populations of reptiles and amphibians using traditional methods such as cover boards and leaf litter bags. You’ll leave Tremont with a new appreciation for the diversity of reptiles and amphibians in the Smokies.
