What could be better than a weekend of birdwatching? How about building your skills, connecting with fellow enthusiasts, and discovering the diversity of birds in the Smokies?

In this course, we’ll explore the many bird species of the southern Appalachian mountains while focusing on their specific adaptations and distributions in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Emphasis will be given to the general natural history of each species, including distribution, associations, reproduction, vocalizations, status, conservation, and research methods. Field trips will take us to a variety of habitats, from low elevations to high, in search of these remarkable creatures.

Cost: $420

Registration includes instruction, food, and lodging in our dorm inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This is one of eight core courses in the Southern Appalachian Naturalist Certification Program (SANCP).
