Escape to the Smokies and join Tremont’s teacher naturalists for an exciting look at what Tremont has to offer.

This weekend is an opportunity to meet other teachers, share ideas, learn about new Tremont programs and answer questions you may have before your school’s visit. It is also a time to relax, enjoy the mountain scenery and make new friends.

Our Teacher Escape Weekends train teachers for experiential learning and include transferable skills to take back to the classroom. Our time together will be productive and fun, with time for individual reflection, discussion of critical issues, and resources for use at Tremont and in the schoolyard.

Attendance in this program allows teachers to attend free of charge when their school participates in a three or five day Tremont school program. It also reduces the cost of the trip for each participant.

“I had no idea what to expect in terms of how many teachers [would be] here and their level of interest. Excellent dialogues with teachers.” – Tim C.

What to Expect:

  • Increased confidence in core routines of experiential learning
  • An opportunity to relax, learn and network with other educators across the region

  • Professional development hours for continuing teacher education

We cover the majority of the cost for the Teacher Escape Weekends because we understand the importance and value of this experience for new and returning teachers. We hope that participants will learn more about this special place and the range of opportunities available here.

Important Information Regarding Programs During COVID-19

Thank you for your interest in our program! During this prolonged period of pandemic and isolation, our work of connecting people and nature has never felt more essential.

We are planning to move forward with our programs in 2021, as we keep a close watch on trends and best practices. Given the uncertainties right now, we are holding off on the specific details we normally include in a welcome letter, i.e. arrival time and procedures, etc.

We feel very good about the safety procedures we put in place during fall 2020 and will likely keep them the same for our 2021 programs. But we also know that things will change during the year, so we are asking you to check back at this website for more specific information as we get closer to the date of your program.

If you have any questions or concerns between now and then, please feel free to get in touch by email or phone: [email protected] or 865-448-9732 ext. 16.
