SUMMARY:Wilderness Emergency Medical Responder
DESCRIPTION:The great outdoors is an ideal place for discovery and adventure\, as well as for encountering the unexpected. Increase your confidence working with groups outdoors by preparing for the worst-case scenarios. \nThe Wilderness Emergency Medical Responder (also referred to as Wilderness First Responder) course is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts\, scout leaders\, camp counselors\, and any other youth or outdoor professional. It not only offers hands-on training for dealing with bites\, burns\, and other injuries\, but also teaches participants how to manage conditions brought about by extreme temperatures and other environmental hazards. \nOur Wilderness Emergency Medical Responder course is presented in partnership with Roane State Community College Continuing Healthcare Education and meets the Tennessee Emergency Medical Services standards and National Registry standards for first responder training. Upon completion of this course\, participants will be eligible for national testing\, which must be completed separately at a certified testing center\, and will also be qualified for listing on the national registry. \nCertification lasts 2 years and may be renewed by attending our Wilderness Emergency Medical Responder Refresher\, taking place January 23-25\, 2026.  \nCost: $1\,060\nRegistration includes instruction\, food\, and lodging in our dorm inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Required course materials must be purchased separately and obtained in advance. \n\nREGISTER ONLINE \n\nFinancial Aid:\nFinancial aid for Wilderness Emergency Medical Responder is available through the Louise Barber Fund.
