SUMMER TEACHER/NATURALIST

This summer position provides an opportunity to work with a nationally recognized residential experiential education institute while living in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Individuals will work extensively with a variety of summer youth programs in a leadership capacity, as well as with occasional college and adult guests. Potential opportunities for professional development include curriculum development, citizen science field projects, and immersive experiences in the cultural and natural history of the Southern Appalachian Mountains.  

Responsibilities: Work in all aspects of implementing summer residential education program for youth including: developing and teaching outdoor and nature activities; conducting evening programs; co-leading wilderness hikes; supervising campers in the lodge overnight; possibility of co-leading backpacking trips, and leading other summer camp related activities. 

Qualifications: Energetic, outgoing, enthusiastic, and committed individuals. Experience and training in environmental education, natural history, and working closely with children in outdoor educational settings. Committed to the social and emotional development of young people. Values diversity, inclusion and equity in a residential education setting.

College graduation and summer camp experience strongly preferred. Basic First Aid and Community CPR training preferred. Wilderness First Responder also preferred. 

Salary and Benefits: $340 per week plus housing, meals, and uniform.  

Dates of Employment: May 26–July 24, 2020.
