KNOXVILLE, TN – The University of Tennessee Press is proud to announce the forthcoming publication of “Forest Time: Footnotes to an Outdoor Education” by Jeremy Lloyd, available in paperback and ebook formats on April 7, 2026.

In his twenties and unmoored by a recent break-up, a broke and anxious man stumbled into a job in Great Smoky Mountains National Park that changed the course of his life. In “Forest Time: Footnotes to an Outdoor Education” Lloyd documents his life since he first settled in the hills of East Tennessee and how a job turned into a lifelong passion for and connection to nature.

With over two decades of experience as an educator at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, Lloyd recounts his journey as a teacher and student of the great outdoors. Equal parts personal, educational, and existential, this memoir will grab anyone interested in walking through the forest with a knowledgeable, vulnerable, and humorous guide.

“With an ear for irony and human folly, Lloyd acts as a trail guide for readers who may have no experience in our national parks while able at the same time to provoke wonder and intrigue in even the most seasoned wilderness explorer,” says Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle, author of the novel “Even As We Breathe.”

“Forest Time” is available for preorder at utpress.org and wherever books are sold.
