Tremont Institute Receives $30,000 Arconic Foundation Grant Supporting Teacher Training

TOWNSEND, TN – Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont received a $30,000 grant from Arconic Foundation to support STEM educator development.

Through Tremont’s Teacher Escape Workshops, monthly networking and support meetings, and an all-access pass to Tremont’s online curriculum resources, educators are able to effectively use hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning that increases student engagement, academic performance, and personal development.

Tremont’s goals include helping teachers to recognize the power of hands-on learning to achieve STEM outcomes, instruct teachers on the latest research on brain-based science teaching and learning, and provide teachers with transferrable tools, methods, and practical experiences so they can be confident taking the lessons back to the classroom.

Tremont maintains a strategic priority to increase awareness and access to STEM education and career pathways for all East Tennesseans. Funding from the Arconic Foundation empowers teachers from schools representing communities across the socioeconomic spectrum in East Tennessee to take advantage of this professional development opportunity, which also reduces the overall cost of returning to Tremont Institute for the school program with their students.
