Tremont Institute Receives $7,500 UT-Battelle Grant to Enhance Weekly Wonder Program

TOWNSEND, TN – Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont received a $7,500 grant from UT-Battelle to increase the reach of Tremont’s Weekly Wonder program.

As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tremont staff created the Weekly Wonder video series, a virtual program that connects youth to Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the joy of discovery in nature. The funding from the UT-Battelle grant will allow Tremont to repackage the series to be used as a classroom resource for STEM education, available at no cost to educators.

The adapted Weekly Wonder program will teachers to access both virtual and experiential learning as it utilizes synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities in their classroom. This project may also serve as a pipeline to future STEM experiences in the park, as it removes traditional barriers to foundational experiences that inspire lifelong learning.
