Springtime is a glorious time of year in the Smokies. Often underrated compared to autumn, colors and light in the springtime can be brilliant as the trees come to life and mature into their summer leaf canopy. In addition, the streams are typically full of water as the upper elevations shed snow and ice from the long winter. Springtime in the Smokies is pure magic!
This workshop covers the use of light, composition, and equipment to capture beautiful mountain landscapes, intimate stream scenes, close-ups, wildlife, sunrises, and more. The primary emphasis is field work with as much one-on-one instructor time as possible. Meals, presentations, and free time are organized and often modified around weather and conditions to maximize photographic opportunities. Locations include Foothills Parkway, the Elkmont historic area, and exclusive early access to Cades Cove before the gate opens to the public.
As time and COVID protocols permit, the workshop includes presentations and an image review session to discuss techniques and aesthetics of participant images. The workshop is designed for all levels of expertise, from beginners to intermediates and beyond. The program lasts from Friday afternoon to Monday mid-morning.
Cost: $750
Unlike many photography workshops, our price includes meals, lodging and instruction by one of the finest teams of photography instructors anywhere in the country. Combine that with the location inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park and it is a real steal.

Important Information regarding Programs during COVID-19
Thank you for your interest in our program! During this prolonged period of pandemic and isolation, our work of connecting people and nature has never felt more ESSENTIAL!
We are planning to move forward with our field programs in 2021, as we keep a close watch on trends and best practices. Given the uncertainties right now, we are holding off on the specific details we normally include in a welcome letter, i.e. arrival time and procedures, etc.
We feel very good about the safety procedures we put in place during fall 2020 and will likely keep them the same for our 2021 programs. But we also know that things will change during the year, so we are asking you to check back at this website for more specific information as we get closer to the date of your program.
