Hiking and Backpacking

One foundational component to environmental stewardship is a love and appreciation for the land, for nature, and for life. Spending recreational time outdoors is one way to grow that connection with the earth. Join others like yourself who want to explore the wilderness, meet other people, and push their personal boundaries.

Hiking Weeks – Join our weeklong Sierra Club hiking programs to spend your days trekking through the Smokies and your nights on our campus enjoying good music, good food, and fellowship.

Backpacking Adventures – For those who want to go a little deeper (literally!) into the woods. Pack up your supplies and head out with experienced naturalists in the lead. These excursions in the Smokies backcountry are a workout both physically and mentally.

Backpacking Adventures for Teens

Our 4-day and 10-day summer camps offer teenagers an unforgettable adventure in the great outdoors, building confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love for nature. On our backpacking trips, campers trade screens for mountain views and connect deeply with the world around them – and with one another. Along the way, they’ll master essential wilderness skills such as navigation, map reading, Leave No Trace principles, and backcountry cooking. It’s a chance to make lasting friendships, embrace challenges, and return home with a renewed sense of confidence and self-discovery.
